Celaque

It's a five hour drive from San Pedro Sula to Gracias.

With one "gringo" bathroom between.

And after the bathroom begins glory.

Never in my life have I seen a more spectacular display of God's handiwork. A picture is worth a thousand words, but seeing it in person is worth a million...

And as we draw near Gracias, Allen Sowers, our missionary host, points and says, "That's Celaque."

Celaque?

It is Luz's mountain...dominating the skyline, looming high over the whole town of Gracias...imposing, wearing clouds like a shroud. It really is fearfully awe-inspiring to see such a thing. Behind all those clouds, you can imagine God Himself looking down.

My heart skips a beat, because I know that somewhere on that mountain is one of God's daughters...one of my daughters...and that soon she will be in my arms.

But that mountain represents so much more. It is the mountain of poverty that threatens her future, the mountain of insecurity and fear and dashed dreams.

My mind leaps to the book of Hebrews, in chapter 12--

You have not come to a mountain that can be touched and that is burning with fire; to darkness, gloom and storm; 19 to a trumpet blast or to such a voice speaking words that those who heard it begged that no further word be spoken to them, 20 because they could not bear what was commanded: “If even an animal touches the mountain, it must be stoned to death.”[c] 21 The sight was so terrifying that Moses said, “I am trembling with fear.”[d]
22 But you have come to Mount Zion, to the city of the living God, the heavenly Jerusalem. You have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly, 23 to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven. You have come to God, the Judge of all, to the spirits of the righteous made perfect, 24 to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word than the blood of Abel.

God has made us a promise through Jesus Christ. He is approachable. The God of glory, has revealed Himself to us, no longer hidden in the clouds. In Jesus we see God reaching down, calling us up.

And I've heard that He can move mountains.
